Library Thing

If you own a fair number of books or are interested in books, this is a must see website. It's almost as good as going to the bookstore and browsing, except you don't end up walking out with a handful of books you "just happened to find". I like that there are reviews by other members to give you a better idea about what a particular book may really be about. It makes it easier to make a wish list of new books. The site's search engine is very useful since you can search by "tags" as well as, title, author, etc., making it easy to find related books to any subject. There are also discussion groups to participate in, which would be much easier to do online, than holding a group you have to attend in person.

Podcasts

I found yet another site I really enjoy using and will find useful for teaching. I have added a few pocasts already, such as yoga and ab workouts that I can share and perform with my classes to give us something different to do in class and expose them to another type of fitness that they can do at home. This will be a great site for me to use and for my students to learn from!

Technorati

When examining the technorati site I found differences in what i would find depending on where I looked for the inforamtion. This was great because it made me feel as though I could put in almost anything and still find what I was looking for.
What I found interesting about the popular page was that it almost resembled the bloglines page that I had set up for myself. I could be wrong this is all new to me, but I wonder if I could use this page instead of bloglines to find information on the same information. I realize that bloglines brings the information to me from one location, but this site also seems to have many of these same sites marked and it would be just as easy to click a link. Maybe I am wrong, I am still learning as I said but I will figure it all out soon.

YouTube video

I love youtube! I can watch videos here all day. I don't think that there is really anything I don't like about this site. I guess having to search through videos that aren't as pertinent can be annoying but sometimes interesting. At any rate I already use this in my class, I frequently show video clips to my classes that relate to what I am teaching at the time.
I chose a video on the new P.E. because I thought it was relavent to this class and the direction that P.E. seems to be going more and more lately. Technology is moving into every aspect of our lives, why not physical education as well?

del.icio.us

I found del.icio.us to be a useful tool, not one that am dying to set up, but useful none the least. I can see myself using this more for bookmarking than anything else (I really don't like not having my home bookmarks and work bookmarks available when I want them). I definetly see the potential of this tool for research assistance...for teaching...I think I would need to learn more to use it for teaching. Maybe in the future I will incorporate this into my teaching, for now, I am glad I was exposed to this.

Web 2.0

Something cool I found on the web 2.0 best list was zillow. It tells you what your house is worth right now, as well as what you bought it for. It shows you the whole neighborhood and what their house is worth as well and what they paid for it. This is a great site for keeping track of the value of your house, past and present.

Google Docs

OK, I can't believe that I am able to do this! This is going to be awesome for teaching. I love to post class assignments on the computer but have always had to cut paste, attach and so on to be able to do so. Then there's the whole...have to have that program thing that gets in the way. This is going to be very valuable. My students will be able to go to my blog page, check their assignments, review presentations, and submit projects among many other things. I can see myself really expanding the way I use the computer and especially the Internet and the web in my classes now.

bloglines

Ok, I absolutely love bloglines. I love the fact that I can go to one place and find all of the information I need at once. Not to mention how easy this was to set up. I really enjoyed doing this and am looking forward to adding many more links in the near future...as if 34 isn't enough right now.

So many siters so little time

I have been a member of Flikr going on 2 years now, but never realized that there were so many sites out there to share information. Since taking my Kins 710 class I have discovered a whole new world and thanks to the assignment I am given and the articles (the teen library) that I am given to read. I have been able to discover a world that I will need to research more to see how it fits into my teaching.

Are social networking sites dangerous?

After reading an article this week in my Kins. 710 class, I found myself wondering if social networking sites could be dangerous. Some of the information that is posted could be considered inappropriate and if kids are posting their use of drugs or other substances to find a group to fit into, that concerns me. The article seemed to say that there are good and bads to these sites, but I kept seeing more bad then good.

kids and sports

Ok, I have a question for anyone willing to answer. At what age should kids be allowed to start playing sports competitively? Is there an age that is too young? I am a believer in allowing kids to explore different activities, but believe that competition at a young age (8 and younger) could be detrimental to a kids future desires to continue participation in the future.
